FAQs
What is tallow?
Tallow is pure, rendered beef fat, traditionally sourced from the suet around the kidneys and loins. When carefully purified, it creates a nutrient-dense balm rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as essential fatty acids. Its structure is remarkably similar to human sebum, which makes it highly compatible with our skin’s natural barrier.
Is tallow safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. Because tallow’s composition is nearly identical to our skin’s natural oils, it is well-tolerated by even the most sensitive skin types, including babies. It’s free of synthetic fragrances, alcohols, and preservatives that often trigger irritation. If essential oils are included in a formula, always patch test first.
How do you use it tallow?
- Face moisturizer: Warm a pea-sized amount between fingers and massage into damp skin.
- Body balm: Apply generously to dry areas such as elbows, knees, and hands.
- Special care: Use as an overnight intensive balm for lips, eczema patches, or cracked heels.
Tallow is very concentrated — a little goes a long way.
What is the shelf-life?
Beef tallow is naturally stable and has an impressive shelf life, especially when stored with care.
At Room Temperature: When stored in a cool, dark place in an airtight container, beef tallow can stay fresh for up to 3-5 months.
In the Refrigerator: Refrigeration can extend shelf life to 12–18 months, helping preserve its texture and quality.
In the Freezer: For even longer storage, freezing beef tallow can keep it fresh for 2–3 years.
How to store it?
Storage Tips:
To get the most out of your tallow, keep it away from heat, light, air, and moisture, as these factors can speed up spoilage. You can even store in the fridge to keep freshness longer.
How to Tell If Your Tallow Has Gone Bad?
Beef tallow is very stable, but here’s how to know if it’s time to replace it:
Smell: Fresh tallow has a light, clean fatty scent. If it smells sour, rancid, or off, it’s time to toss it.
Appearance: Watch for any mold or discoloration — both are signs of spoilage.
Texture: If your tallow becomes gritty or separates oddly, it may no longer be good.
Trust your senses: If anything seems unusual, it’s always better to start fresh with a new jar.
What are the benefits?
Tallow nourishes the skin on multiple levels:
Barrier support: Its fatty acid profile mimics the lipids in our skin, helping to repair and strengthen the skin barrier.
Moisture retention: Locks in hydration without suffocating the skin.
Nutrient-rich: Delivers fat-soluble vitamins that encourage elasticity, smoothness, and natural glow.
Soothing: Calms dryness, irritation, and redness.
Multi-use: Effective for face, body, lips, cuticles, eczema spots, and even as a natural diaper balm.
Does it smell like beef?
No—properly rendered tallow has little to no scent. Ours is slow-rendered for purity and blended with essential oils for a light, natural fragrance. Prefer no scent at all? We also offer unscented options that are perfect for sensitive skin or those who like to keep it simple.
Does it work for acne? Does it clog pores?
Tallow is non-comedogenic (does not clog pores) when properly rendered and free of impurities. Its fatty acid balance helps regulate natural oil production, which can actually improve acne-prone skin. It provides hydration without the pore-blocking effects of synthetic creams. Many users with acne find tallow helps calm inflammation and supports healing.
Is it safe to use on kids & babies?
Yes! Tallow is incredibly gentle and safe for delicate baby skin & kids. Use it as a daily moisturizer, diaper cream, or calming balm for sensitive spots. Always patch test first, just like with any new product.
How long does it take to see results?
Many people notice softer, more hydrated skin within the first few uses. For concerns like dryness, eczema, or uneven texture, consistent use over 2–4 weeks allows the skin barrier to rebuild and show visible improvements. Like all natural skincare, results build over time with regular use.
Meet Shaae
"I grew up in Idaho where cattle were a part of everyday life. My family ran a calf ranch, and over the years we built businesses that provided meat for our community and natural dog treats for families like ours. I felt a pull to continue that tradition by using the whole cow and honoring the animal fully.
That journey led me back to tallow. For generations, it was a trusted part of daily life, both in the kitchen and on the skin. Today, I’m bringing it back in a way that makes sense for modern living: simple, natural skincare and wellness products that help remove toxins from our routines and reconnect us with nature as it was meant to be.
My goal is to create products you can trust — safe, effective, and rooted in tradition — for you, your family, and even your pets.
Thank you for being part of this journey."
